Cloud Video Surveillance refers to storing video recordings at a remote, Internet-based location rather than on local servers. It can also include services provided by a remote security organization that monitors activity, receives alerts, views live video, and notifies subscribers when action is required.

Because video is transmitted over the Internet, outbound bandwidth is a critical factor in determining how many cameras can be supported.

Bandwidth Considerations

The Internet bandwidth required for an IP camera system depends primarily on: the number of cameras, resolution, compression method, and the complexity of the scene being recorded all determine whether a cloud-based solution will perform effectively.

When to Consider Cloud Video Surveillance

A cloud-based system is a good option when: You want to avoid managing local recording hardware, you prefer not to maintain on-site security personnel, you are concerned about theft or vandalism of local recording equipment, you want remote monitoring and alert notification as a managed service.

Cloud surveillance provides a flexible and secure alternative to traditional on-site systems that don’t require many cameras. AI-enhanced camera systems are ideal for remote security management because they require less Internet capacity and can support a large number of IP cameras.

Cloud Management of AI-Enhanced IP Camera Systems

Cloud-Based Management of AI-enhanced cameras systems

When IP camera systems add AI-enhanced capability, the cloud-based video management and security becomes a viable option for large surveillance camera systems.

AI-enhanced camera systems are used anywhere organizations want to move from passive recording to real-time detection and response. Instead of just capturing video, these systems analyze what’s happening and alert staff immediately.

These systems are very effect in school safety, where you want to detect fights, or intrusions, detecting people carrying a weapon. In the workplace falls and unusual behavior can be detected and reported immediately. To provide even better security and reduce false alarms, there are organizations that provide human verification of AI-generated alarms. For example, ViewScan provides a remote security monitoring center, staffed by TMA-certified and military-trained personnel.

TVIP-CloudVMS Cloud Video Storage

This system provides remote storage that can’t be removed or damaged by intruders. Video is recorded in the server based on predetermined settings. Recording occurs when on alarm condition is detected by the cameras. The alarm conditions available depend on the camera used and can include motion detection, line crossing, removed object, object left behind, and other camera side analytic alarms.

There is a monthly service charge based on the number of cameras, and recording time. Other features include remote notification of alarms and remote camera control.  It is important to select the right cameras, for each location. The resolution, compression and frame rate must be balanced to maximize performance. Mobile Viewing of the IP Camera System

IP Camera Cloud System Diagram

A video recording system that is on the same network as the IP cameras, can provide remote client viewing on any smart device.  Since it provides local recording on the same network, high outbound bandwidth is not required.

The bandwidth necessary is determined by the number of remote computers or mobile devices connecting to the central server (cloud).  It is also determined by the number of cameras viewed on each remote display.

The system provides notification when an alarm is detected.  You can review the real-time and recorded video from your smartphone or other mobile devices.

There are a number of recording systems that support mobile apps on your smartphone and other mobile devices. Both NVR and VMS that run on your own computer can be selected. The performance of the computer depends on the number of IP camera on the local area network (LAN).

There are also a number of small systems available that can be easily be hidden, or locked away to prevent local vandalism.

TVIP-MobileClient

The mobile app runs on your smart device. The video is recorded locally using a video recording system that is located on the same network as the cameras. The bandwidth requirements are much lower because we only need to provide video streams for the specific cameras of interest, rather than all the cameras.

This system provides remote alarm notification, camera management and control from the mobile device. When you are interested in viewing your cameras from your mobile smart device, or browser, then this is the system of choice.

When Cloud Services are not practical, Use On-site Video Recording Systems

Video recording systems include Video Management Software (VMS) that runs on your own Windows computer, or Network Video Recorders (NVR) that include both the computer and the software. These systems can manage camera at multiple locations and allow viewing of the video using your smartphone.
