The villagers seeing that there were many monkeys around their village, they went out to the forest and started catching them.
The man bought thousands at $10. When supply started to diminish, he again announced that he would now buy at $20. This renewed the efforts of the villagers and they started catching monkeys again. Soon the supply diminished again. The man then increased the offer rate to $25 but now the supply of monkeys became so little that it was an effort to even see a monkey, let alone catching it!
The man announced that he would now buy at $100! and, since he had to go to the city on some business, his assistant would now buy on his behalf. In the absence of the man, the assistant told the villagers “Look at all these monkeys in the big cage that the man has bought…….I will sell them to you at $75 and when the man returns from the city, you can sell it to him for $100. The villagers squeezed up with all their savings and bought all the monkeys.
After they bought all the monkeys, they never saw the man and his assistant again, only monkeys everywhere!

In 1956, an engineer accidentally soldered the wrong resistor into a heart monitor prototype. Instead of recording a heartbeat, his mistake began creating one.
That engineer, Wilson Greatbatch, had reached into a box of components and mistakenly pulled out a 1-megaohm resistor instead of the 10-kiloohm one his circuit required. When he powered on the device, it emitted a rhythmic, pulsing electrical signal. Greatbatch instantly recognized that the steady timing of his flawed circuit could be used to stimulate a human heart rather than just listen to it. That single error led directly to the invention of the world’s first successful implantable pacemaker.
Greatbatch’s story is part of a long tradition of engineering accidents that changed the world. During World War II, Raytheon engineer Percy Spencer was testing a cavity magnetron—a powerful vacuum tube designed to generate microwave radio signals for military radar. While standing in front of the active equipment, he noticed that a peanut cluster candy bar in his pocket had turned into a gooey mess. Intrigued by the localized heat, Spencer placed unpopped popcorn kernels near the magnetron, which immediately popped across the room. He realized the military radar technology could excite water and fat molecules to cook food rapidly, leading to the commercial release of the Radarange, the first microwave oven.
Harry Coover’s engineering mistake was so frustrating he made it twice. In 1942, the Eastman Kodak researcher was searching for a clear, moldable plastic to manufacture precision gun sights for soldiers. He formulated a compound called cyanoacrylate, but abandoned the material because it was hopelessly sticky and ruined his test equipment. Nine years later, Coover was supervising a team trying to design heat-resistant canopies for jet fighters. They tested cyanoacrylate again, and it destroyed their equipment again by permanently fusing two costly refracting prisms together. This second failure finally caused a shift in perspective. Coover realized he had not failed to make a plastic canopy; he had accidentally invented an adhesive that cured instantly without heat or pressure. Today, that frustrating compound is sold globally as Super Glue.
